Several times Jesus had plainly told His followers that He would die and rise again. But the women (and all His other disciples) forgot. They were completely shocked and bewildered to find the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. Why? Because grief and fear and doubt have a way of overwhelming us and clouding our thinking.
Is there something in your life right now that is causing you to forget the glory and power and comfort of Jesus' resurrection? Is some grief overwhelming you? Is some fear consuming you? Is some doubt leaving you with a big question mark? Like the women, do you wonder where Jesus is?
Don't forget what the angels said to the women: "He is not here; He has risen! Remember how He told you." (Luke 24:6)
We have the exact same words those women had. We have Jesus' promise that He would die and rise again. And we have every blessing that comes with this promise He kept.
That means everything He ever said is true and trustworthy.
That means your sins are truly paid for - you are forgiven fully.
That means everything He ever promised is guaranteed to happen.
That means there is a forever called heaven with a place prepared for you.
That means there is every reason to wait, hope, and endure in this dying world.
That means there is something to live for.
That means you can die in peace.
Remember Jesus' words. They are life and peace for all who trust in Him.
