Hi, this is Daniel from ForgivenFully.com, sharing with you the exclamation point of God’s forgiveness.
Yes, it’s true: I look like Josh Groban. (Actually he looks like me since I’m older!) If you’re not sure who he is, you can look him up on 'the Google.' Now it’s one thing to look like him, but to be like him is a whole different story. That’s a pretty lofty standard, and I don’t have the singing voice of this talented man.
Who do you look like? God calls us to imitate Him.
Talk about a lofty standard! He calls us to "live a life of love." (Ephesians 5:2) You may tell me that you’re loving, kind, and compassionate, and I believe you. But we’re talking about a God-like love – one that is completely and consistently selfless, serving, and sacrificing – like Jesus.
Let’s look at the big picture. "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children, and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." (Ephesians 5:1,2) God calls us "dearly loved children" because "Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us" to cleanse us from all of our sins and to make us His very own. Consider how that motivates our life of love. Does a dearly loved child have to earn her father’s love? No! So also when imitating God, we’re not trying to live up to a certain standard to earn His love; no, we are secure in God’s love through the sacrifice of Christ. Our imitating is a living out of who we are, of who He’s made us as His dearly loved children, forgiven fully in Christ.
