"Who do you say I am?," Jesus asks. (Luke 9:18-22) That is the single most important question in the world, and just as Jesus asked it of His disciples, He asks it of you. Are you ready to answer?
Peter simply and accurately answered that Jesus is "the Christ of God," but his expectations for the Christ of God did not include a cross. What about us? Could it be that if Jesus disappoints us, it’s only because we don’t see from Him what we want to see? Could it be that we often have the expectations of man rather than the expectations of God?
God sent His Son into the world to save sinners, and God expected that to happen on a cross. And so in the least expected place, the greatest expectation was met: the Christ of God died on a cross and paid sin’s wage for us all. Jesus didn’t come to fit the mold we have made for Him. He came to fit the cross that His Father in heaven had planned for Him. That’s what makes Him the Christ of God, our Savor from sin, our sure hope of eternal life in heaven. SEE JESUS FOR WHO HE TRULY IS.
