Hi, this is Daniel from ForgivenFully.com, sharing with you the exclamation point of God’s forgiveness.
How confident are you that you’ll be going to heaven? Some people have bluntly told me that they don’t at all expect to go to heaven. How’s your confidence? Do you think you will? Do you hope so? …Do you know so? Some will say, ‘How can you know that you’re going to heaven? That’s God’s judgment; you really can’t know until you die.’
Well let me tell you this: I know without a doubt that I deserve to go to hell. I’m sinful; in many ways I’ve rebelled against the One who gave me life and every blessing in it. Yet I can also tell you without a doubt, with absolute certainty, that I am going to heaven. …How can this be – so sure I deserve hell, but so confident I will stand in heaven?
If getting to heaven depends on me, on my performance, then I could only be doubly sure that I’m on the highway to hell. But my place in heaven does not depend on my performance; it depends on God’s promise in the performance of His Son.
This is the simplest way I’ve learned to put it: We broke the Law, but Jesus paid our fine. So the Apostle John says, "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may KNOW that you HAVE eternal life." (I John 5:13) Yes, you can KNOW that you have eternal life (even in the midst of all your struggles with sin!) because of what God’s Son did and because of what He Himself promised. To know this gift of eternal life is yours is to know a peace that the world cannot give…and that the world cannot take away.
